To become a driver in Kenya, you must do and pass a driving test. This covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of driving. The driving tests are administered by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) under the national government of Kenya. How to Get a Smart Driving License in Kenya

NTSA has set various conditions that students should meet before booking a driving test. They include;

  • Understanding all the road rules
  • Have full knowledge of the various road signals
  • Have the highway code knowledge
  • Be physically fit to drive a car

If you have met the above conditions, you are ready to book a driving test using the below steps

Step 1: Visit the NTSA e-citizen portal and log in to your account. The portal allows you to reset your login details in case you have forgotten them.

Step 2: Click on the services then driving license. On the same page, click on the driving test application.

Step 3: Proceed to fill in all the required information on the application form. These include details such as your personal information and the class test you plan to do

Step 4: Payments. After filling in the details, you should proceed to pay for the driving test.  Some of the various payment methods available include visa card payments and mobile money payments.

Step 5: Prepare for the test. Upon successful registration and payment, you are now ready to do the test at one of the certified centers by NTSA. You should also print your test booking certificate as proof of test booking.

If successful in the test, you get a certificate of completion (COC) which is valid for 3 months. The COC contains details such as the class of vehicles you are qualified to drive.
